The Chamber of Agriculture is a professional self-governing body in which elected farmers, rural women and gardeners form the voluntary decision-making bodies. They are elected for six years. All committees of the Chamber of Agriculture consist of two thirds representatives of the employers and one third of employee representatives.

The highest decision-making body is the general assembly , which consists of 174 elected members. 18 people from the fields of science, professional associations and rural women are appointed as members by the general assembly. The general meeting meets at least once a year. It takes the fundamental decisions for the tasks of the Chamber and decides on the budget.

The main committee is elected by the general assembly and consists of the president , his two deputies and 15 other members. The main committee is the permanent representation of the general meeting. As a rule, it meets once a month and gives the administration the instructions required to carry out the tasks. The main committee is comparable to the board of a stock corporation.

At the head of the Chamber of Agriculture is the honorary president , currently Karl Werring. He is the chairman of the general assembly and the main committee and exercises the highest level of supervision.

The director is the head of administration. He manages the day-to-day business and is the superior of the employees of the Chamber of Agriculture. At the same time, he is the state commissioner and, in this capacity, a higher state authority for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
