Career
Daniel Poulin began his career as a hockey player with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens , for which he was active from 1973 to 1977 in the Canadian top junior league Quebec Major Junior Hockey League . Then he was selected in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the eleventh round as a total of 167 players by the Montreal Canadiens , for which he never played. Instead, the defender spent the 1977/78 season with the Kalamazoo Wings and Muskegon Mohawks in the International Hockey League .
In the summer of 1978 Poulin moved to the Erie Blades from the Eastern Hockey League , whose championship he won with his team in 1979 and 1980 twice in a row. After a season with the Oklahoma City Stars in the Central Hockey League , the Canadian signed in 1981 with their league rivals Nashville South Stars , for their cooperation partner, the Minnesota North Stars , he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1981/82 season , scoring a goal and providing an assist in three games. The right-handed shooter then went to Europe, where he received a contract with EHC Biel from the Swiss National League A , with which he won the national championship in the 1982/83 season . For Biel, the former NHL player was on the ice for a total of seven years before he ended his career following the 1989/90 season, which he spent at its league rivals HC Davos .
He then worked as a coach, first he coached HC St. Imier, HC Tramelan and then HC Moutier for nine years. In 2003 he returned to Canada and bought a Swiss chalet on Lac à la Truite near Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts .
Dan Poulin died of skin cancer in Canada in January 2015 at the age of 57.
