Catchment area

The catchment area includes the former districts of Aarberg , Biel , Büren , Erlach and Nidau , but also parts of Bern . In all sections , topics from the Biel-Seeland region are the specialty of the regional newspaper.

Holdings

The German-language daily newspaper belongs to the Gassmann Group, which also includes the French-language newspaper Journal du Jura . The publisher is also heavily involved in the bilingual regional television TeleBielingue . The Biel Communication Center (CC), which is located next to Biel Central Station, houses all three editorial offices and the local radio Canal 3 - as well as other companies from the communications and media industry.

collaboration

The Bieler Tagblatt works very closely with the Journal du Jura , TeleBielingue and Canal 3 in day-to-day business . In the case of similar or identical content and stories, the contributions are linked to one another and can thus be called up on any medium.

The newspaper was printed until autumn 2012 in the publishing house of W. Gassmann AG in Längfeld in Biel- Bözingen , where the former editorial office was once located, and since then in Büchler Grafino, which belongs to the Tamedia group. For several years now, the newspaper has been getting the supraregional parts from the Berner Zeitung and, since 2018, from Tamedia's new German-speaking editorial team. The Bieler Tagblatt , however, canceled the contracts for printing and general editing for mid-2018. The aim is to reduce costs.

Competitor

In addition to the Bieler Tagblatt , the bilingual free weekly newspaper Biel Bienne is published in the city and in the agglomeration . In addition, daily newspapers such as Der Bund , Blick , Berner Zeitung , Grenchner Tagblatt and Solothurner Zeitung and free papers such as 20 Minuten and Blick am Abend penetrate the publication area. The Sunday press is also fighting for presence in Biel and the surrounding area.

Editorial team

Around 30 permanent editors and around 150 regular employees and correspondents work for the Bieler Tagblatt . The editorial team includes various departments, layout and production. The news and multimedia desk with its own internet editorial team is the hub for incoming reports. The internet editors are responsible for maintaining their own website and social media pages. An independent photo team supplies the Bieler Tagblatt with current and varied images on various topics. Images of this are used for the articles in the newspaper and also posted on the Internet as a picture gallery.

particularities

The Bieler Tagblatt is one of the few Swiss daily newspapers that offers its own film page every week with reviews and film tips. The “Watches & Hightech” section provides regular reports on current news and background information from the watch industry, which is of great importance in Biel and the region. The “Kinderblatt” appeals to children and young people with specific topics and services.

Internet presence

In addition to an agency service with supraregional content, the Internet editorial team focuses on regional content that is published on a daily basis.

The BT website has its own sections on films, DVDs and games. Every day the BT photo jury selects a reader photo of the day, which is published in the newspaper in the “Reader photo” section. In the “Readers reporter” section, readers can send in texts, pictures and videos which, after viewing, will be published and rewarded both in the newspaper and on the Internet. The internet editors also offer a regular SMS service on regional topics (politics, economy, culture and sport). The EHC Biel and FC Biel have a big presence at the site during the season.
