Jimmy Dean Waite (born April 15, 1969 , Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was active for many years in the German Ice Hockey League and International Hockey League .

Career

Waite played for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the Canadian Junior League QMJHL when he was selected eighth overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft . After another year in the junior league, in which he made only 16 games due to a broken collarbone , the Canadian finally switched to the organization of the Blackhawks, for which he played his first 11 NHL games in the following years. In the following three years until 1992 he ran mainly for the Indianapolis Ice farm team in the International Hockey League , but also came to some NHL missions. 1993 transferred the Blackhawks Waite in exchange for Neil Wilkinson to the San Jose Sharks , which he left after only one year and 15 missions for Chicago. There the goalkeeper commuted again between IHL and NHL until 1997, where he made the majority of the games for Indianapolis Ice, only five in total for the Blackhawks. In 1997 , the 1.80 m tall French-Canadian moved again and again to lower-class leagues, in this case the American Hockey League for the Springfield Falcons and the IHL for the Utah Grizzlies .

For the 1999/2000 season , Jimmy Waite was hired as a " free agent " by the Toronto Maple Leafs . After two years and 105 games for the St. John's Maple Leafs farm team , however, the goalie moved to Europe, where he hired food from the German ice hockey league with the Moskitos . After the mosquito's license was withdrawn during the season, the goalie switched to local rivals Iserlohn Roosters the next season , with whom he narrowly missed the play-offs . After just one year in the Sauerland, ERC Ingolstadt showed interest in the Canadian goalkeeper and signed Waite for the 2003/04 season . In the 2004/05 season , Waite was well on its way to scooping the most shutouts in a season in the DEL of all time. As early as January 2005, he had eight, the record was nine, but a knee injury and subsequent surgery set him back. Waite was then voted the best goalkeeper in the league by the trade journal “ Ice Hockey NEWS ”, although up until then, Cristobal Huet, a current NHL player, had bridged the lockout in the DEL. In the next three years, too, Waite was a sure source of support for ERC Ingolstadt and was always able to qualify for the play-offs. In the 2008/09 season , the team missed the finals and there was criticism of Waite. Nevertheless, his jersey number 29 was banned from ERC Ingolstadt. For the next year, the ERC signed Dimitri Pätzold as the successor to Waite, so that he left the club after six years. In January 2010 Waite, who was in the meantime without a contract, was signed by the Nürnberg Ice Tigers .

In July 2014, Waite was hired by the Chicago Blackhawks as a goalkeeper coach. On June 15, 2015, he won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks as a member of the coaching team .
