There were a few pits in Volnsberg. Most of them, however, were shut down again after a short period of operation. Among them was the Friedrichssegen mine , which was muted on July 30, 1872 and abandoned again in 1875. The Hermannsfreude (1918) and Schöne Aussicht (1884) mines were closed again in the year of the prospect. The Kupferquellersegen mine , which was awarded on April 22, 1856 and operated until 1930, lasted the longest . In 1949, the last mine in the village of Luise was shut down. It was only re-awarded in 1925 and extracted roofing slate.

Volnsberg belonged to the former Weidenau office and became a district of Siegen on July 1, 1966 as part of the local reorganization .
