Location of Seelbach in Siegen
|
Seelbach is a district of the city of Siegen ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) in the western part of the city.
geography
Seelbach lies in the valley of the Alche , which flows into the Sieg in Siegen . Coming from the west, the approx. 4 km long Lederbach , which is the tributary of the Rabenstein Weiher , flows into the Alche and, in the further course, the Rabelsbach (approx. 2 km) coming from the southwest , which flows through the town center. The place is at an altitude between 270 m and 350 m - the highest point is the Starke Buberg (431 m) in the southeast.
The district borders on the Siegen districts of Trupbach in the north, Achenbach as part of the district of Alt-Siegen in the east, Oberschelden in the south and the Freudenberg districts of Lindenberg , Heisberg (both in the west) and Alchen in the northwest.
history
Seelbach was first mentioned in a document in 1266. In 1389 Gyse Hepe sold his belongings in Nassau to Johann zu Wildenburg.
In 1832 the Seelbacher Weiher and Rabensteins Weiher were created for the Seelbacher Mühle , which was demolished in 1976 as part of the construction of the L 562 . The old facilities for water delivery are still preserved in fragments, but the latter only serves as a fishing pond and local recreation area today.
In 1921 a volunteer fire brigade was founded. In January 1998 it was merged with the Trupbach and Siegen-West fire fighting groups (which no longer exist) and since then has formed the fire brigade 7 of the city of Siegen.
The place was an independent municipality in the Weidenau office . On July 1, 1966, it was incorporated into the city of Siegen as part of the municipal reorganization .
In 1994 the Heimatverein published a chronicle with an illustrated book of the local history, which enjoyed great popularity.
