Gosenbach is a district in the west of the city of Siegen .
geography
It borders in the northwest on the Oberschelden district , in the east on Siegen and in the south on Niederschelden . Gosenbach is approx. 3 km² in size and lies in a narrow valley running from northeast to southwest, through which the Gosenbach flows. In the center of the village, the Schelderbach coming from Oberschelden joins the Gosenbach .
The lowest point is at the exit of the Gosenbach valley on the border with Niederschelden and is 236 m above sea level. NN . The highest point is the summit of the Red Church and has a height of 439 m above sea level. NN . The amount of precipitation is around 1,000 mm per year.
history
Gosenbach was first mentioned in a document on November 25, 1347 as "Gosinbach". The document speaks of a farm in Gosenbach. The Selbacher Hof in the local area was first mentioned in 1347. It was owned by the old noble Selbach family . The second large Gosenbacher Hof was the Wildenburger Hof.
Mining has a long history in Gosenbach, which only ended in 1942 when the last mine, Storch & Schöneberg, was closed. The total depth was 1162.7 m last, at the time of the closure it was the deepest iron ore mine in Europe. Only later was it surpassed by the Pfannenberger Einigkeit and Eisenzecher Zug pits . In addition to the ore mines, there was the Gosenbacher Hütte between 1417/1444 and 1927 , in which the Gosenbacher ore was smelted.
In 1958 the town's new church was inaugurated, for which the old machine house of the Storch & Schöneberg mine was rebuilt for five years.
Until 1878 Gosenbach belonged to the Weidenau office as an independent municipality, to the Eiserfeld office between 1878 and 1966 and was incorporated into the new city of Eiserfeld on July 1, 1966 , which in turn was incorporated into the city of Siegen on January 1, 1975.

Infrastructure
Gosenbach has a sports field, a football field and several tennis courts. A gym and a school sports facility are available in the village. Gosenbach also has its own elementary school. There is industry in the south of Gosenbach in the direction of Niederschelden. In addition, there is a war memorial from 1914/1918 and a war cemetery inaugurated on August 30, 1953 in Gosenbach.
The country road 533, which leads from Niederschelden to Achenbach , runs through the village . In the village itself, the L 907 branches off to Oberschelden. Gosenbach is connected to the federal motorway 45 via the Siegen driveway . The next train station is in Niederschelden.
In addition to the Gosenbach source, which was newly framed in 1979, the Gosenbach Home and Beautification Association has built two Latene melting furnaces. More information about the Gosenbach source and the ovens can be found on the display boards.

The teacher and prehistoric Otto Krasa taught in Gosenbach at the Protestant elementary school and researched the prehistory of the Siegerland. He wrote the chronicle of the community of Gosenbach and was made an honorary citizen of the city of Eiserfeld in 1970.
