history
Oberschelden was first mentioned in a document on February 24, 1342. In this certificate a "Gerhart von Schelte" was named.
Mining in the local mines (e.g. Stork & Schöneberg Mine ) was an important line of business for a long time.
During the Second World War , on April 22, 1944, an airplane crashed in Oberschelden while bomber formations overflight in the afternoon. An American bomber was shot down by a Bf 109 and crashed during an intended emergency landing on the Oberscheldener Höhe "Auf der Hohler" while trying to avoid the RWE's 220 and 110 kV overhead lines. The aircraft then exploded along with the on-board ammunition and the three crew members remaining on board. The three dead soldiers were then buried in the Oberschelder cemetery and returned to their homeland after the war. Another of three crew members who jumped off with a parachute also died as a result of the parachute not opening.
The municipality of Oberschelden belonged to the Freudenberg Office until the first municipal area reform . With effect from July 1, 1966, it was added to the newly founded town of Eiserfeld . With the renewed municipal reorganization, the cities of Eiserfeld and Hüttental were added to the city of Siegen on January 1, 1975. Oberschelden thus became a district of the city of Siegen.
In 1992 the 650th anniversary was celebrated.
