Niedernetphen is a district and a district of the city of Netphen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1969, Niedernetphen was an independent municipality in what was then the district of Siegen .

Niedernetphen encompasses the western part of the Netphener core city on both sides of the Netphe with Sankt-Peters-Platz as the center.

history

Niedernetphen was first mentioned in a document in 1439. Since the 19th century, Niedernetphen formed a rural community in the office of Netphen in the district of Siegen in the Westphalian administrative district of Arnsberg . Niedernetphen was also the official seat of the Netphen office.

On January 1, 1969, Niedernetphen became part of the municipality of Netphen through the Second Siegerland Act , which received town charter in 2000. Today, Niedernetphen and Obernetphen form the Netphen district of the city of Netphen.
