history

The European Winter Throwing Cup was held for the first time in 2001 and was called the European Throwing Challenge until 2004 . The competition was started because long throw disciplines cannot be held in indoor competitions in winter. In 2007 the U23 age group of under 23-year-olds was included in the competitions.

Although athletes can participate on an individual basis, there are also country ratings. Until 2006, two athletes per country and discipline were rated and the points earned in the four disciplines were added up. Since 2007 only one athlete per discipline has been considered. Men and women as well as the U23 are rated separately.
