The Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa is a football stadium in the Portuguese city of Leiria owned by the first division football club União Leiria . It was the venue for two group matches at the 2004 European Football Championship . The stadium holds 30,000 spectators and was officially opened on November 19, 2003 with the game between Portugal and Kuwait (8-0). The stadium, built by the architect Tomás Taveira , is owned by the City of Leiria. The stadium, which has expanded from 11,000 to 30,000 seats, is located in the middle of a pine forest and is part of the municipal sports center.
