The Stade Charles-Ehrmann is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the French port city of Nice , on the Côte d'Azur , in the Alpes-Maritimes department . It is located in the sports complex of the sports park Charles-Ehrmann (formerly: Parc des sports de l'Ouest). The stadium offers space for 8,000 spectators, but in combination with the Palais Nikaia, which opened in 2001, can create space for over 50,000 visitors. The athletics club Nice Côte d'Azur athlétisme and the second team of the football club OGC Nice use the sports facility. Concerts are also held on the site .

history

In the 1960s it was discovered in Nice that the infrastructure of sports facilities was deficient and a large sports center with an athletics stadium was planned, the construction of which began in 1970. Since the politician Charles Ehrmann had insisted on the implementation of standards for athletics events during the construction of the facility, numerous international competitions took place immediately after completion on August 4, 1973.

Concerts

US pop star Madonna appeared in the stadium four times. Including during their first world tour Who's That Girl World Tour , Blond Ambition World Tour , their Sticky & Sweet Tour and the MDNA Tour 2012. In 1990, during the Blond Ambition World Tour, a DVD was even filmed here. The band U2 played twice in the stadium, each with more than 55,000 visitors. At the U2 concert on July 15, 2009 there were 55,641 visitors (last known record). Michael Jackson gave two concerts here. The first time was during the Bad World Tour in 1988 and during the HIStory World Tour in 1997.
