The women's 10,000-meter run at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held on August 27 and 30, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .

With silver and bronze, the Chinese long distance athletes won two medals in this competition. World champion was the British Olympic runner-up from 1988 Liz McColgan . Silver went to the Asian champion from 1989 over 3000 meters and two-time winner of the Asian Games 1990 (3000 / 10,000 meters ) Zhong Huandi . Wang Xiuting , winner of the Asian Games over 10,000 meters in 1986 and second in 1990, won the bronze medal.

Preliminary round

The large number of 49 participants made it necessary to schedule preliminary runs. The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first ten athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the five fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the final three days later.
