Carmem de Oliveira

Carmem de Oliveira ( Carmem Sousa de Oliveira Furtado; born August 17, 1965 in Sobradinho , Federal District do Brasil ) is a former Brazilian long-distance runner .

Career

In 1985 she won silver at the South American Athletics Championships in Santiago de Chile over 3000 m and 10,000 m . At the Cross Country World Championships she came in 1986 in Colombier on rank 52 and 1987 in Warsaw on rank 88. At the Pan American Games in 1987 in Indianapolis she was over 3000 m and 10,000 m respectively fifth.

In 1989 she won the South American Championships in Medellín over 3000 m and 10,000 m and was sixth over 10,000 m at the Athletics World Cup in Barcelona .

In 1991 she won the Brasilia Marathon and defended her two titles at the South American Championships in Manaus . At the Pan American Games in Havana she took bronze over 3000 m and was fourth over 10,000 m, and at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo she was eliminated over both distances in the preliminary run. She was tenth in the New York City Marathon .

1992 followed an 86th place at the Cross Country World Championships in Boston, victories at Freihofer's Run for Women and at the Ibero-American Championships over 3000 m and 10,000 m. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona , she did not get past the first round over 10,000 m.

The following year she won the Gasparilla Distance Classic and came third in the Boston Marathon . She won over 10,000 m at the South American Championships in Lima in 1993 and finished eleventh at the World Championships in Stuttgart . She finished second in the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women and seventh in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon .

In 1994 she was second in the Gasparilla Distance Classic and the Lisbon Half Marathon , fifth in the Boston Marathon and third in the New York Mini 10K . She finished 34th at the World Half Marathon Championships in Oslo and fourth at the Tokyo International Women's Marathon. In 1995 she won over 10,000 m at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata and at the South American Championships in Manaus . At the end of the year she triumphed at the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre .

In 1996 she finished sixth in the Nagoya Marathon . In the marathon of the Olympic Games in Atlanta , she did not finish.
