The 1980 World Athletics Championships in the Dutch city of Sittard consisted of two women's competitions: a 3000 meter run and a 400 meter hurdle run . Both disciplines had not been part of the program of the Olympic Games in Moscow (July 19 to August 3, 1980), which took place in the same year. The competitions were held from August 14th to 16th, 1980 at the De Baandert Stadium. 42 athletes from 21 countries took part. The USSR team canceled participation.
