Petra Pfaff

Petra Pfaff (born October 16, 1960 in Hoyerswerda ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - was one of the world's top 400-meter hurdles in the early 1980s .

Her greatest achievement is third place at the 1980 World Championships in 55.84 s. At the European Championships in 1982 she was second in 54.90 s. Her personal best of 54.64 s at the 1983 World Championships meant fourth place, 0.11 seconds behind bronze.

In 1980 she won her only GDR championship title over the hurdles, in 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1984 she was second. In 1980 she was also the GDR champion in the 4 x 400 meter relay race . Petra Pfaff started for SC Cottbus . During her competition time she was 1.72 m tall and weighed 58 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of Pfaff was also found among the doped athletes.
