The Olympic Stadium in Tokyo in 2008

The men's 400-meter race at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held from August 25 to 28, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .

In this competition, the US runners won two gold and bronze medals. Antonio Pettigrew became world champion . Silver went to the reigning European champion Roger Black from Great Britain , who three days later became world champion with his country's 4 x 400 meter relay . As in the 1988 Olympic Games , Danny Everett finished third. He had won gold with the 4 x 400 meter relay at the last World Championships and the last Olympic Games. For Pettigrew and Everett there was also silver with their relay on the final day.
