Simon Kipkemboi

Simon Kipkemboi (also Simeon Kipkemboi ; born April 15, 1960 ) is a former Kenyan sprinter .

In 1985 he won over 200 m at the African Championships in Cairo and was seventh at the Athletics World Cup in Canberra .

In 1987 he won the same distance at the Pan-African Games in Nairobi and reached the semifinals at the World Athletics Championships in Rome .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, he was eliminated over 400 m in the quarter-finals and in the 4-by-100-meter relay in the semifinals. In the 4 x 400 meter relay , he finished eighth with the Kenyan team.

In 1989 he won silver over 400 m at the African Championships in Lagos . At the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 , he won bronze over the same distance and won the Kenyan 4 x 400 meter relay with Samson Kitur , Stephen Mwanzia , David Kitur and Kipkemboi.

In 1991 he reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Tokyo over 400 m and came in fifth place with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he failed over 200 m in the run. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, he set David Kitur, Samson Kitur and Simon Kemboi in the lead with 2: 59.63 minutes, the current Kenyan record; in the final, however, the Kenyan quartet did not reach the goal.
