Leaname Maotoanong celebrated his first international title win at the 2014 African Championships , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals over 200 meters and won the gold medal with the Botswana 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2015 he took eighth place with the season at the World Relays in the Bahamas . He then won the silver medal over 400 meters at the Student World Games in Gwangju, South Korea, and was disqualified in the relay in the final. With the relay he also took part in the World Championships in Beijing , where he retired with a new national record of 2: 59.95 minutes in advance . At the end of the season he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters at the Africa Games in Brazzaville , won the silver medal behind Kenya with the 4 x 400 meter relay and took the 4 x 100 meter relay in 39, 83 s fifth.
In 2016 he was used in the run-up to the relay team at the African Championships in Durban , which then won the gold medal in the final. He was also used in the run-up to the 4 x 100 meter relay and the relay finished seventh in the final. He then took part in the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished fifth with the Botswana 4 x 400 meter relay in the final in 2: 59.06 minutes. In 2018 Maotoanong took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and won the gold medal there with the Botswana relay in 3: 01.78 s. At the African Championships in Asaba he took part in the 200-meter run and was eliminated there with 21.65 s in the first round. The following year he finished seventh over 200 meters at the Afriakspiele in Rabat with 21.04 seconds and was used in the 4 x 100 meter relay in the run-up.
