Onkabetse Tolly Nkobolo (born July 23, 1993 in Francistown ) is a Botswana athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Onkabetse Nkobolo gained his first international experience at the Junior African Championships 2011 in Gaborone , where he was eliminated over 800 meters in the first round. At the 2014 African Championships in Marrakech , he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters and could not finish his run there. In 2015 he took eighth place with the season at the World Relays in the Bahamas . He then retired at the World Championships in Beijing over 400 meters with 45.17 seconds in the lead , as was the case with the Botswana 4 x 400 meter relay, which also retired in the lead with a new national record of 2: 59.95 minutes . At the end of the season he won the bronze medal over 400 meters at the Africa Games in Brazzaville and also won the silver medal behind Kenya with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2016 he was disqualified in the run-up to the African Championships in Durban because of a track violation. With the 4 x 400 meter relay, he won the gold medal in 3: 02.20 minutes. He then took part with the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished fifth in the final in 2: 59.06 min. In 2017, the Botswana relay won the silver medal in the World Relays behind the United States. With the relay he also took part in the World Championships in London and was eliminated there with 3: 06.50 min in advance . In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and won the gold medal there in 3: 01.78 s with the Botswana relay. In August he finished sixth in the African Championships in Asaba in 46.83 s.

In March 2020, Nkobolo suffered fractures on his leg in a traffic accident.
