Aron Kipchumba Koech , also known as Haron Koech (born January 27, 1990 in Kisii ), is a Kenyan hurdler who specializes in the 400 meter distance . He is the twin brother of the world champion over 400 meters hurdles, Nicholas Bett, who died in 2018 .
Athletic career
Aron Koech gained his first international experience at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated in the semifinals with 49.54 seconds . In 2016 Koech won the silver medal with the Kenyan 4 x 400 meter relay at the African Championships in Durban and the bronze medal in the hurdles in 49.41 seconds. He also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he reached the final and finished seventh in 49.09 s. In 2017 he qualified again for the World Championships in London and reached the semi-finals there , in which he was eliminated with 50.40 s.
In 2018 he took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he finished sixth in 50.02 s. In addition, he was disqualified with the Kenyan relay in the finals after the relay first came in third. Then he was fourth in the hurdles at the African Championships in Asaba in 49.94 s and won the relay in a new championship record of 3: 00.92 min. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama he reached third place in the mixed relay in 3: 19.43 minutes and then he took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time, where he came in sixth with 50.58 seconds. He also finished fourth in the relay in 3: 05.71 minutes.
In 2018, Koech became the Kenyan champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
