Uchenna Emedolu (born September 17, 1976 in Anambra ) is a Nigerian sprinter .
He first played football in his youth . After no sporting success there, he concentrated completely on athletics from 2000 , which he had previously practiced on the side. He managed to qualify for participation in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . In the 200-meter run , he reached the quarter-finals. With the Nigerian 4 x 100 meter relay , he was eliminated in the semi-finals.
Now more experienced, he reached the semi-finals at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in both the 100-meter run and the 200 -meter run . The final breakthrough came in 2002. At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and at the African Championships in Tunis , he won the silver medal over 100 m. In the same year he became the first African 100-meter run winner at the Athletics World Cup in Madrid .
At the World Athletics Championships in 2003 in Paris , he finished sixth over 100 m and eighth over 200 m. At the Africa Games in Abuja he won gold in the 200-meter run and silver in the 100-meter run with a personal best of 9.97 s.
He celebrated the greatest success of his career at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . Together with Olusoji Fasuba , Aaron Egbele and Deji Aliu , he was a member of the Nigerian 4 x 100 meter relay, which won the bronze medal behind the teams from Great Britain and the United States in a time of 38.23 s . In the 100-meter run, Emedolu reached the semi-finals.
In 2005 he started at the World Championships in Helsinki over 100 m and 200 m, but missed the finals in each case. At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 he was fourth over 100 m and sixth over 200 m. In the same year he became African champion in Bambous in the 200-meter run and won the silver medal in the 100-meter run.
In 2007 he won the bronze medal over 100 m at the Africa Games in Algiers . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he competed in the 100-meter run, but failed in the preliminary round. Even with the 4 x 100 meter relay, he could not reach the final.
In addition, he was four times Nigerian champion in the 200-meter run (2001-2003, 2006) and once in the 100-meter run (2005).
Uchenna Emedolu is 1.78 m tall and has a competition weight of 75 kg.
