Troy Douglas (born November 30, 1962 on Paget Island ) is a former track and field athlete who specialized in the sprint .

Life

Douglas competed for Bermuda in the 1988 , 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics. He reached the semi-finals in the 200- (1996) and 400-meter run (1992 and 1996).

At the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona in 1995 , he celebrated his greatest success as a single starter by winning the silver medal in the 200-meter run (20.94 seconds). Douglas only had to admit defeat to the Norwegian Geir Moen (20.58 s).

After changing citizenship , Douglas started working for the Netherlands in the late 1990s . At the European Championships in Budapest in 1998 , he only missed third place by a very thin margin when he crossed the finish line at the same time as the Briton Julian Golding , who was only awarded the bronze medal based on the photo of the finish. Douglas then protested too violently against the final photo decision and was disqualified for it.

Before the 1999 World Championships , the anabolic steroid nandrolone was detected in a doping test at Douglas , which is why it was banned for two years.

Together with Timothy Beck , Patrick van Balkom and Caimin Douglas , Douglas won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 2003 World Championships behind the teams from the USA and Brazil in 38.87 seconds . At the 2004 Summer Olympics , the Dutch relay team, with the same line-up, was eliminated due to a mistake in the prelude.

In 2003 Douglas set two world records in the M40 age group (40-45 years). He ended his career in 2004.

With a height of 1.73 meters, his competition weight was 71 kg. After his career he worked as an athletics trainer and radio host in The Hague .
