The men's 400-meter run at the 1995 World Athletics Championships was held from August 5th to 9th, 1995 in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium .
In the first two places there was the same result as at the World Championships two years earlier . The US runners achieved a double victory. It was won by defending champion Michael Johnson , the 1991 world champion over 200 meters was and the 4-400-meter relay times of his country in 1992 Olympic gold and 1993 World Cup won -Gold. Here in Gothenburg Michael Johnson won over 200 meters two days later and on the final day over 4 × 400 meters. Silver went to the two-time vice world champion ( 1987/1993 ). 1988 Olympic runner-up and world record holder Harry Reynolds , who won two World Cup gold (1987/1993) and 1988 Olympic gold as a member of the United States' 4 x 400 meter relay . The Jamaican Gregory Haughton won the bronze medal.
World champion Michael Johnson was in a class of his own in this race. He won by more than eight tenths of a second.

Record improvement
The US world champion Michael Johnson improved his own world championship record in the final on August 9th by 26 hundredths of a second to 43.39 s and thus approached the world record of runner-up world champion Harry Reynolds down to a tenth of a second.

The preliminary round was carried out in seven runs. The first four athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the four fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the quarter-finals.
