Abednego Matilu (born November 21, 1968 ) is a former Kenyan sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

In 1992 he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run at the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona he was in the final with the 4 x 400 meter relay . However, the Kenyan relay did not reach the goal.

The most significant success of his career he achieved in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships in 1993 in Stuttgart . Together with Kennedy Ochieng , Simon Kemboi and Samson Kitur , he won the silver medal in 2: 59.82 minutes behind the relay of the United States , which set a world record in this race (2: 54.29 minutes).

Matilu took part in two other athletics world championships. At the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , he reached the semi-finals over 400 m. In contrast, he failed at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville in the preliminary round.

Abednego Matilu is 1.75 m tall and had a competition weight of 73 kg.
