Davis Kamoga

Davis Kamoga (born July 17, 1968 ) is a Ugandan athlete .

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , Kamoga won the bronze medal over 400 meters thanks to a late sprint . This was the first medal by a Ugandan in an Olympic track and field competition since John Akii-Bua won the 400 meter hurdles at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . With the time of 44.53 s, Kamoga set a new Ugandan national record.

The following year Kamoga competed in Athens at the World Athletics Championships . In the final on August 5, 1997, he brought two-time world champion Michael Johnson into dire straits. Kamoga could no longer catch Johnson on the home straight and in the end won the silver medal with the new Ugandan national record of 44.37 seconds.

In the following seasons Kamoga had to miss several competitions due to injury problems. In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney , but was eliminated there in the second round.
