The men's 200-meter run at the World Athletics Championships in 1993 was held from August 17 to 20, 1993 in the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart .

World champion was the vice world champion in 1991 and Olympic runner-up in 1992, Frank Fredericks from Namibia , who had also won Olympic silver over 100 meters in 1992. Silver went to the British Championships -third of 1987 and European Champion in 1990 John Regis , the 100 meters in 1990 EM -Dritter was, along with several relay medals at Olympic Games, World and European Championships had won. The multiple sprint , long jump and relay Olympic champion and world champion Carl Lewis from the United States came in third.

Record improvement

The Namibian world champion Frank Fredericks improved the existing world championship record in the final on August 20 with a wind support of 0.3 m / s by sixteen hundredths of a second to 19.85 s.

At the same time Fredericks set a new African record with this time.
