Kennedy Ondiek

Kennedy Ondiek (born December 12, 1966 in Kisumu , † July 14, 2011 ) was a Kenyan athlete .

Life

Ondiek was one of the best sprinters in Kenya from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s and took part in numerous international competitions. Together with Joseph Gikonyo , the 100 and 200 meter winner at the African Championships in 1990 in Cairo , he made a significant contribution to making the sprint more popular in Kenya.

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he reached the quarter-finals in the men's 100- and 200-meter races . He also started in the 4 x 100 meter relay and reached the semi-finals together with Peter Wekesa , Simeon Kipkemboi and Elkana Nyangau .

At the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 he was eighth in the 200-meter run and also reached the 200-meter quarter-finals at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo . At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , he started again in the athletics competitions in the 100 and 200-meter run and reached the quarter-finals again in the 200-meter run. Also at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart , he was eliminated after the quarter-finals, while at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria he was eliminated after the preliminary round.

Ondiek died on July 14, 2011 under unknown circumstances.
