World Champion was the reigning European champion , World Championship -Third of 1980 over 3000 meters , EM -Third of 1982 in marathon and world record holder of Ingrid Kristiansen of Norway . Second place went to the Soviet runner Jelena Schupijewa . Bronze went to Kathrin Ullrich from the GDR .
