Aurora Cunha

Aurora Cunha (born May 31, 1959 in Ronfe near Guimarães ) is a former Portuguese long-distance runner .

In the early 1980s she was Portugal's best female track runner and was sixth in the 3000 meter run at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with the Portuguese record of 8: 46.37 minutes. She also improved the national records over 5000 and 10,000 meters to 15: 06.96 min (July 4, 1985, Helsinki ) and 31: 29.41 min (July 5, 1986, Oslo ).

From the mid-1980s she focused on road running and won two golds (1985 and 1986) and one bronze (1989) at the 15 km World Championship.

In 1988 she won the Paris Marathon . In 1989 she set her best marathon time of 2:28:11 h as third in the London Marathon . That same year she finished second in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon , which she had won the previous year.

In 1990 she won the Chicago Marathon , in 1991 she finished second in the Nagoya Marathon , and in 1992 she won the Rotterdam Marathon .
