The marathon of the women of the women at the World Athletics Championships 1987 was held on August 29, 1987 in the streets of the Italian capital Rome .
World Champion was the two-time European champion ( 1982 / 1986 ) Rosa Mota of Portugal . She won ahead of the Soviet runner Soja Ivanova . Bronze went to the French Jocelyne Villeton .
