Jocelyne Villeton (born September 17, 1954 in Vals-les-Bains , Ardèche ) is a French long-distance runner .

Life

Villeton didn't begin competitive training until the early 1980s. In 1983 she was second in the Lyon Marathon with 2:50:09 for the first time under three hours. It increased steadily, and three years later she just missed the French record in second place in the Paris Marathon with 2:32:22. At the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart she was soon fifth and fourth at the New York City Marathon of the same year.

At the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 , she took bronze behind Rosa Mota (POR) and Soja Iwanowa (URS) in 2:32:53. She was also third this year in New York with her personal best of 2:32:03.

She was also successful on other routes. She was national champion three times in the 10,000 meter run (1984, 1986 and 1987) and twice in the 25 km road run (1984 and 1991). She also set a French record over 10,000 m twice in 1986.

Jocelyne Villeton is married with two children (* 1979 and 1981) and lives in Saint-Étienne . She continues to take part in competitions from 5 km to the ultramarathon area in the senior women area. In 2004 she won her age group in the Dublin Marathon and in 2005 in the Rome Marathon . As president of Femmes en Course pour la Parité , she is also committed to promoting equal rights for women in running. In 2002 she was honored with the Ordre national du Mérite .
