Soy Ivanova
Soja Iwanowa ( Russian Зоя Иванова , English transcription Zoya Ivanova ; born March 14, 1952 in Saton near Petropawl ) is a Kazakh long-distance runner who, starting for the Soviet Union , had her greatest successes in the marathon .
Ivanova, who was originally a cross-country skier , was Soviet marathon champion four times in a row from 1981 to 1984. In 1982 she won the Tokyo International Women's Marathon in 2:34:26. At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki she finished 23rd.
In 1985 she won silver at the IAAF World Cup marathon and gold in 1987.
At the marathon of the 1987 World Championships in Rome, she won the silver medal behind Rosa Mota (POR) and ahead of Jocelyne Villeton (FRA). In the same year she set a Soviet record as third in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon with 2:27:57, which is still the Kazakh national record today (as of 2008).
In the marathon of the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she was ninth. In 1989 she won the Los Angeles Marathon and finished sixth in the New York City Marathon . In 1990 she finished seventh in the Boston and New York City Marathons and set another current Kazakh record in the 25 km road race with 1:28:32.
