Boris Cepeda

Boris Cepeda (born September 26, 1974 in Quito ) is a German - Ecuadorian pianist , conductor , arranger , diplomat and cultural manager .

Career

Cepeda received his first piano lessons at the age of four. He first appeared on Ecuadorian television when he was five. In 1981 he gave his first concert in Quito. Since then he has given concerts worldwide a. in the Berlin Philharmonie , in the Konzerthaus Berlin , Laeiszhalle , Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur, Casa de la Música Quito, Teatro Nacional Sucre and at the music festivals Kissinger Sommer and Kurt-Weill-Fest in Dessau. Boris Cepeda studied in Kurt Seibert's class at the University of the Arts in Bremen . As a song accompanist , Boris Cepeda has dealt in particular with the work of Franz Schubert , Max Reger , Aribert Reimann and Moritz Eggert . Together with the baritone Peter Schöne , he initiated the Schubertlied project in 2004. In 1998 Boris Cepeda and his wife Katja founded the Max Reger piano duo, which performed and recorded the most important works by this composer for this line-up. Boris Cepeda is also active as a piano teacher and has given master classes, seminars and lecture concerts at schools, music schools, music conservatories and cultural institutions in Germany, Ecuador, Malaysia, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Since the season 2009/2010 Boris Cepeda worked as deputy director of studies and accompanist at the Anhalt Theater in Dessau . Since spring 2016 he has been working as a study director at the Münster Theater in Westphalia . In this task he works with singers from the theater. He works as a choir director at the Münster Concert Choir.

In the 2012/13 season, Cepeda took over the musical direction of the children's opera “ Bastien and Bastienne ” by WA Mozart (director: Jana Eimer) at the Anhaltisches Theater. For this production he created an arrangement for wind quintet. In the 13/14 season he directed the operetta “ The beautiful Galathée ” by Franz von Suppè (stage set: Felix Losert) at the Anhaltisches Theater.

Boris Cepeda has been working as a processor since 2002. He has u. a. arranged the music for the play "The Good Man of Sezuan" (director: Josef Pausch) for the Leuchtenberg Castle Festival in 2002, in 2012 an arrangement for wind quintet of the opera "Bastien und Bastienne" by WA Mozart for the Anhaltisches Theater and in 2014 a version for Salon orchestra of festival music "Castra Vetera" brought out by Max Reger.

diplomat

Boris Cepeda worked as cultural attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in Berlin from 2002 to 2007. In this function he was a. a. responsible for the organization of the cultural program of Ecuador for the soccer World Cup 2006.

Cultural manager

During his music studies in Bremen, Boris Cepeda helped organize interdisciplinary projects at the Bremen University of the Arts, such as B. “From the depths of the soul” and “Johannes Brahms”. In 1999 he worked as assistant to the artistic director of the 1st Weiden Max Reger Day. In the same year he directed the Festival of Ibero-American Music in Bremen. In 2009 he founded the international music festival Mendelssohnfest.

A character in the novel “Itinerario de Trenes” by the Ecuadorian diplomat and writer Jaime Marchán, published in 2000, is named Boris Cepeda. There he is described as a painter and cultural attaché for the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in Vienna.
