Oliver Kent (born November 13, 1969 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian jazz pianist .

Kent learned classical piano from his father Fuat Kent in Vorarlberg. In 1987 he moved to Vienna to study jazz piano and music theory at the Vienna Conservatory ; During this time he accompanied musicians such as Karl Ratzer , Art Farmer and Idris Muhammad . In 1994 he spent in New York, where he worked with Eddie Henderson and Valery Ponomarev . In 1995 he returned to Vienna, where he became a member of Roman Schwaller's quartet . He worked with the Concert Jazz Orchestra Vienna, the Jazz Big Band Graz , Gansch & Roses and the Flip Philipp - Ed Partyka Dectet. He maintains a septet with bassist Gerhart Ulrich Langthaler, which has released two albums. With Langthaler and Dusan Novakov he forms the trio Triple Ace . He can also be heard on the albums of Paulo Cardoso and Johannes Enders .

Since 2002 he has held the professorship for jazz piano at the private university Conservatory of the City of Vienna.

Prizes and awards

In 2002 he received the Hans Koller Prize in the “Sideman of the Year” category; two years later he received the Hans Koller Prize in the category “best CD of the year”. In 2007 he was the winner of the New German Jazz Prize with the Johannes Enders Quartet .
