Fuat Kent

Selim Fuat Kent (born January 31, 1945 in Istanbul ) is a pianist and conductor of Turkish origin.

Life

Kent received his first piano lessons from his mother at the age of four and was accepted into the conservatory when he was six. From 1958 he studied at the Paris Conservatory , where he graduated with honors in 1962. Then he was a master student of Andor Foldes in Saarbrücken for four years . In 1968 he moved to Austria . First he made a name for himself as an interpreter of Béla Bartók . In the 1980s he began to be more and more interested in contemporary music, especially in new techniques for creating sound on the piano. Today he is considered a recognized specialist in this field; it came to cooperation with György Ligeti and George Crumb . In 1991 he founded the Ensemble New Art , which has set itself the task of performing contemporary music .

From 1977 until his retirement in 2010, Kent was Professor of Piano and New Music at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory . He is also a part-time diving instructor and head of operations for underwater operations for the environmental protection organization Greenpeace . The jazz pianist Oliver Kent is his son.
