Monika Schäfer

Monika Schäfer ( Monika Irene Schäfer , née Breithecker ; born October 6, 1959 in Kirberg ) is a former German long-distance runner .

In 1984 she was fourth at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Gothenburg over 3000 meters , in 1985 she won the Kassel City Run , and in 1986 she was third in the Berlin Marathon .

In 1987 she was second at the Hamburg Marathon and second at the German Championships in the 10,000 meter run . At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Rome , she gave up after 10 kilometers, at the New York City Marathon she was eighth.

After a break of several years from competition, she came second in the 1991 German championships in 15 km road running . In 1994 she became German champion in the half marathon. The following year she became German indoor champion over 3000 meters. In the open air, she was second over 10,000 meters and third over 5000 meters at the German championships . At the World Championships in Gothenburg she was eliminated over the latter distance in the preliminary run, at the German Championships in the half marathon she was fourth, and at the Half Marathon World Championships in Belfort she did not finish. In 1996 she defended her national indoor title over 3000 meters.

Monika Schäfer started for the LC Mengerskirchen until 1983 and then for the LAC Quelle . She is a professional dental assistant.
