List of German champions in road running
In the athletics discipline of road running , the German Athletics Association (DLV) has organized German championships for distances shorter than a marathon (42.195 km) since 1977 - German champions in marathon running have been officially determined since 1925; the so-called. German marathon .
The distance was 25 km for men from 1977 to 1992, 25 km for women from 1977 to 1987, and 15 km from 1988 to 1992. Since 1993, both genders have run the half marathon distance (21.0975 km). There were also team ratings, for men from the beginning and for women since 1981. The order results from the addition of the times achieved by each of the best three runners in a club.
Since 1987, the DLV has also organized championships in the 100 km road race and since 2001 also over the 10 km on the road.
Karl Fleschen's winning time of 1978 (1:13:58 h) is still held by the DLV as a record over 25 km, but not internationally recognized because it was probably achieved on a route that was probably too short.
