List of German champions in high jump
The high jump is one of the competitions that were on the program at the Olympic Games from the start. In this technical discipline there have been repeated changes in technology over the decades. For a long time the jumpers used the so-called shear jump - crossbars with an upright upper body - the v. a. was used in women until the 1960s. As early as the 1930s, men began to develop into the so-called straddle, in which the bar is crossed face down. This style was v. a. in use by men well into the 1970s alongside a new technique, the so-called Fosbury flop, in which the bar is crossed backwards. However, after a relatively short transitional phase with the straddle technique, women almost without exception adopted this new form of jumping at the end of the 1960s and early 1970s. The technique was made famous by the 1968 Olympic champion Dick Fosbury . Today you can only find this backward jump technique in high jump.
The discipline also found its way into the German Athletics Championships early on. It was held here continuously, for men since 1903 and for women since 1922. In 1914, 1944 and 1945 there were no German championships due to the war .
