List of German champions in 5000 meter walking

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The women had to wait a long time and fight hard so that competitive walking would become possible for them. In 1980 the time had come: at the German Championships , 5 km walking for women was included in the program for the first time . In the GDR there was a championship for women in walking for the first time in 1985 , the distance was 3000 meters. Subsequently, the GDR switched to a track length of 10 km before the last GDR championships in 1990 saw a competition over 5000 m. In 1987 and again in 1998 the length of the road for women at the German Championships was changed to 10 km and 20 km respectively. The results of the longer walking distances can be found in the corresponding listings - see navigation bar below . But the length of the course over 5000 meters remained in the program of the German championships. In the years 1990 to 1997 and then continuously from 2000 onwards, women were offered 5000 m track walking. Between 1998 and 1999 there had been women walking over 10,000 meters.

For men, competitions over 5000 m track walking were held in 1921 and 1922 and competitions over 3000 m track walking at the German Championships from 1910 to 1913 , which are listed for the sake of completeness.

An additional team competition in the 5 km street walk for women was on the program in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1982 to 1986. The order of the teams resulted from the addition of the individual times of the best three runners of a club.
