List of German champions in the decathlon
The decathlon is a form of competition that is only held for men at the German Athletics Championships . The competition at German championships has been on the program since 1911 . Due to the war, no German all-around championships took place from 1914 to 1918 and 1944 to 1947 . In the Federal Republic of Germany the decathlon came back into the championship program in 1948, in the GDR this was the case in 1949. Later there were two more cases that no German decathlon champion could be determined. In 1984 the competitions had to be canceled after the seventh discipline due to heavy rain and in 2015 there was no organizing club for the event.
Since it was first held at the Olympic Games in 1896, the competition has consisted of the following disciplines: Day 1: 100 m , long jump , shot put , high jump , 400 m / Day 2: 110 m hurdles , discus throw , 200 m . Pole vault , javelin throw , 1500 m . Over the decades, the scoring tables have been repeatedly adapted to the changed developments in the individual disciplines.
Overview of this - with regard to the German Championships - in detail:
- 1911 to 1929: older German rating table
- 1930 to 1933: international rating table from 1912
- 1934 to 1951: international rating table from 1934
- 1952 to 1964: international scoring table from 1952
- 1965 to 1984: international rating table from 1965
- since 1985: international rating table from 1985
The German all-around championships were and are repeatedly affected by the often timely staging of attractive competitions with international competition - e.g. B. in Ratingen or Götzis . The top German athletes often refrained from taking part in the German championships in favor of these offers - the number of all-round competitions per season needs to be dosed correctly and so the athletes have to decide here. In 2016 it was even the case that the all- around competitions at the Olympic Games took place in the same week as the German all- around championships. The 2017 championships also took place parallel to the World Athletics Championships in London.
Since 1958 there has also been a team classification in the Federal Republic of Germany . The best three athletes per club are rated here; the order results from the addition of the points achieved in the individual rating. In the GDR , teams were rated between 1961 and 1965.
