Jörg Mattheis

Jörg Mattheis (born April 22, 1944 in Rockenhausen ) is a former German athlete . Starting for the then Federal Republic of Germany , he won the silver medal in the decathlon at the European Championships in 1966 .

Athletic career

Mattheis initially started for ASV Köln and from 1966 belonged to USC Mainz . When he competed, he was 1.85 m tall and weighed 86 kg.

The 7614 points achieved by Mattheis at the European Championships in 1966 correspond to 7478 points according to the 1985 table. His performances in the individual disciplines were: 11.3 s (100 m) - 7.17 m (long jump) - 14.45 m (shot put) - 1.88 m (high jump) - 50.0 s (400 m) - 16.2 s (110 m hurdles) - 45.48 m (discus throw) - 3.70 m (pole vault) - 67.98 m (javelin throw ) - 4: 26.9 min. (1500 m)

At German championships he was third in the decathlon in 1965 and 1966. In 1966 he won the team championship with USC Mainz.

For his sporting successes he received the silver bay leaf on May 1st, 1967 .

After studying dentistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , Mattheis worked as a resident dentist in the northern Palatinate .
