    geography

As the name North Palatinate suggests, the landscape forms the northern part of the Palatinate. Almost all of their surface is by Nordpfälzer mountains taken from which the massif of Mount Thunder with 686.5  m above sea level. NHN towers above.

The most important rivers are the Glan and Alsenz , which flow in a south-north orientation of the lower Nahe from the right . Further to the east, this is done by the somewhat smaller rivers Appelbach and Wiesbach, which are also facing north .

Other landscapes in the Palatinate are the Vorderpfalz , the Südpfalz and the Westpfalz . The Palatinate Forest lies centrally in between and partially overlapping with the other landscapes .

    Counties

During the regional reform of Rhineland-Palatinate (from 1969) the two districts of Kirchheimbolanden (license plate KIB) and Rockenhausen (license plate ROK) were merged. Since then, the North Palatinate has only consisted of a single district:

Occasionally the Kusel district to the south-west (car license plate KUS) is also counted as part of the Northern Palatinate, but mostly it is assigned to the Western Palatinate .

In the first step of the territorial reform, some local communities belonging to the Northern Palatinate were assigned to other districts:

In a second step, some incorporations or connections to association communities took place .

In general, the communities that were spun off from today's Donnersbergkreis to other districts during the regional reform are no longer considered part of the Northern Palatinate.

    Cities

The northern Palatinate is only sparsely populated. The three most populous cities all have fewer than 10,000 inhabitants:
