The North Palatinate History Association was founded in Rockenhausen in 1904 as a history association based on local history . Its main area of activity was the former district of Rockenhausen , but now extends to the entire Donnersberg district , into which the district of Rockenhausen was merged in 1969, and beyond to the neighboring region in the north of the Palatinate.

The establishment was connected with the establishment of the Bavarian district office Rockenhausen in 1900; The initiative came from the first local district administrator Carl Pöhlmann (1863–1947), a passionate local historian. One of the best-known co-founders and activists was the Catholic priest of Ebernburg at the time , Heinrich Georg Rung (1854–1931).

From 1911 to 1943 the association also owned the Falkenstein castle ruins , which are now publicly owned .
