The women's 80-meter hurdles run was held internationally until 1968. Eight hurdles, each 0.762 m high, were set up on the route. The run up to the first hurdle, like the run from the last hurdle to the finish, was twelve meters, and the distance between the hurdles was eight meters. From 1969, the 80 m hurdles were replaced by the longer 100 m hurdles in order to better meet the stride length of the runners in the distance between the hurdles.
The competition over 80 m hurdles was held for the first time at a German athletics championship in 1929. There have been no official championships in this discipline in Germany since 1969. In accordance with international practice, the route was extended to 100 meters and so there has only been the 100-meter hurdles race at the championships since 1969 .
↑ For the 10.6 s achieved by Zenta Kopp , which would have meant setting their own German record, there was no wind measurement, so this performance could not be officially rated.
