List of German champions in 50 km walking
The 50-km walk is in Athletics - history , the first walk distance, the distance has established itself internationally and nationally. In the early days of walking , the length of the competitions on offer varied again and again, but since the Olympic Games in 1932 this discipline has been part of the program as the longest Olympic walking distance - with the exception of 1976 - but only for men. Women's walking only came into the official competition program in the early 1980s with significantly shorter distances. However, according to an IAAF decision, walking 50 km is now at least open to women. They will be able to compete in the upcoming World Team Championship in Rome 2017. The route for women has not yet been included in the Olympic program; further developments remain to be seen. But considering the history of other disciplines, it is at least very likely that 50 km walking will establish itself for women in the near future.
At the German Championships , 50 km walking has so far only been held by men. Championships on this route took place from 1920 to 1941, in the Federal Republic from 1949 and in the GDR from 1951. In 1953, athletes from the GDR competed in the championships in the Federal Republic of Germany, Rudolf Korb from Dresden came third in the GDR championships in 1953 and won the title in the Federal Republic. In the program of the all-German athletics championships since 1991, the men's competition is still an integral part.
In order to completely record the walking competitions held at the German championships in the various listings for the disciplines of these championships, two more longer routes that are no longer part of the program are listed here - results are listed in separate tables below:
- 35 km walking - GDR championships in 1950 and 1963 to 1965
- 100 km walking - German championships from 1906 to 1912.
A team rating for 50 km walking was introduced in 1927, which was then a regular part of the championship program until 1941 and except in the Federal Republic from 1949, when 50 km walking was resumed at the German championships in 2000, was also rated. From 2003 on there were no more team ratings due to the greatly reduced number of participants. In the GDR there was a team competition from 1951, which, like the 20 km walk in 1965, was part of the GDR championships for the last time. For the sake of completeness, the walking distance over 35 kilometers should also be mentioned here, as in the individual evaluation. There were team ratings in 1950, 1964 and 1965. The three best walkers of a team are also included in the rating. Initially, the placements were the yardstick for the order, from 1941 onwards the addition of the respective individual times.
