history

Town hall of Önsbach

The place was first mentioned in 1225 as Ongersbac in a papal bull by Pope Honorius III. , in which the former monastery Ettenheimmünster was assigned the property. In 1230 a farm in Ongisbach was transferred from a Burkhard von Hohenrode to the Honau monastery. The Ortenau , in which Önsbach is located, changed hands several times until the transition to the Grand Duchy of Baden (1805, Peace of Pressburg ).

In 1844 the station was opened on the "Rheinschiene", which was originally planned as the starting point for the Baden Black Forest Railway .

Until modern times there was no uniform spelling of the village name. In 1938 it was changed to its present name.

Önsbach was incorporated into Achern on January 1, 1973.
