The shot put was first performed in the German Athletics Championships for men in 1909. In 1914, 1944 and 1945 none of the German championships took place due to the war . For women, the discipline was part of the competitions at their first German championships in 1920. In 1935 and 1936, the women's competition was removed from the program - the reason for this was that the shot put was not held at the 1936 Olympic Games either.
From 1924 to 1928, the men’s championship in two-handed shot put was also determined. The distance achieved with the weaker arm was added to the distance of the already scored push / throw with the better arm.
German championship record men: 21.87 m David Storl ( LAC Erdgas Chemnitz ) - Ulm , July 25, 2014 German championship record women: 20.92 m Claudia Losch ( LAC Quelle Fuerth ) - Berlin , July 13, 1986
All-German champions since 1991 ( DLV )
In 1946 the first German post-war athletics championships were improvised in Frankfurt am Main after an agreement between various representatives of the athletics specialist group approved by the Allies . As part of this event, the German Athletics Committee was founded, which initially sought to organize the athletics activities in the British and American zones of occupation , the representatives of the French zone joined them later. The German Athletics Committee organized the German Athletics Championships from 1947 to 1949. The German Athletics Association , which was re-established on November 12, took over the organization of the championships from 1950.
