The railway sports club Sportfreunde München-Neuaubing e. V. , ESV Neuaubing for short , with almost 4,000 members and currently 26 divisions, is a traditional multi-division sports club, the club with the largest number of members and divisions in the west of Munich and one of the largest in Bavaria . It is located in the catchment area of Munich's 22nd district of Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied . The club colors are red and white, the emblem of the club represents the coat of arms of the former municipality of Aubing and the club name.

In every decade of the association's existence, numerous Olympic participants as well as World Cup and European Championship participants and medal winners, German and Bavarian champions have been active in various sports or have emerged from the association.

The most famous athletes include the weightlifter Manfred Nerlinger in the 1980s and 1990s, the weightlifters and Olympic champions Rudolf Ismayr and Eugen Deutsch in the 30s, the wrestler Johann Sterr in the 50s and the leader of several Nanga Parbat expeditions, Willy Merkl , also in the 1930s. The Taekwondo world championship participants and European champions Sonja Schiedt, Bettina Hipf and Özgür Günes in the 1990s started for the colors of ESV Neuaubing as did the former pentathlon athletics record holder Eva Wilms in the 1970s. At the end of the 1950s / beginning of the 1960s, ESV Neuaubing had the strongest wrestling team in Germany and won a total of 4 titles in the fight for the German wrestling team championships in 1958, 1961, 1962 and 1965/66.

Team champion and until 2013 in the 2nd Bundesliga South and since 2014 in the Bayernliga on the dumbbell, in bowling 3rd in the German team championship 1960, in women's volleyball they beat 1976/77 , 1977/78 and 1979/80 in the 1st Bundesliga, in women's handball the club played in the Bavarian League from 2010 to 2013. In football, the men's team reached 3rd place in the 1991/92 season in the Oberbayern regional league and the C-youth achieved their highest placements by participating in the highest Bavarian and thus also national youth class 1987-89.

history

In March 1921 the “Turn- und Sportverein Neuaubing” was founded, in September 1921 the “Freie Turnerschaft Neuaubing”, from 1926 “Reichsbahn Turn- und Sportverein Neuaubing” or “Eisenbahn Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft Neuaubing”. This resulted in the "Reichsbahn Sportgemeinschaft Neuaubing" in 1933. Members were mainly the workers from the railroad factories in the area, whose main focus was on the heavy athletics sports of weightlifting and wrestling .

The " Central-Werkstätte Aubing der Kgl. Bayerische Staatsbahnen ”built the three-storey brick buildings that are characteristic to this day for their employees on Papinstrasse, right next to the sports grounds. They are under monument protection.

Before the Second World War, the “Freie Turnerschaft Neuaubing” was both athletic and politically active: In the 1930s it took a stand against the NSDAP rulers and joined the “ Iron Front ” trade union , which is why the gymnastics association was officially dissolved in 1933.

Former members of the gymnastics club, namely Josef Lampersberger and Gustav Körner, were still active in the resistance, however, they were arrested in 1935. After the war, official sports were banned, which is why the military government dissolved the "Reichsbahn Sportgemeinschaft Neuaubing"; the “Free Gymnastics Association” could, however, remain active. Starting in 1936, the site on Papinstrasse was cleared by its own members in order to create an outdoor sports facility and a football field.

After the war, former members of the "Reichsbahn-Sportgemeinschaft" and the "Freie Turnerschaft" formed the association "Sportfreunde Aubing-Neuaubing" in 1946. In 1951 the name was changed to the club name "ESV Sportfreunde München-Neuaubing eV", which is still valid today.

Sports facilities

On the club's own premises at Papinstraße 22 there is a triple gymnasium, two grass soccer fields, a hard court with floodlights and a small court for youth games, a ballet hall, a bowling alley, a state performance center for weightlifting, a weight room for prevention and rehabilitation, a martial arts room, and a small climbing facility , a tennis facility with ten outdoor courts, a table tennis / gymnastics room and a club restaurant with two halls, an open terrace and a parlor in the basement for catering in the bowling alley. The Sportalm is also located on the Spitzingsee.

In addition, sports rooms in the vocational training center in Langwied, in the Elsa-Brandström-Gymnasium in Pasing, in the elementary school on Limesstraße in Neuaubing, in the elementary and secondary school in Peslmüllerstr. in Pasing, in the elementary school on Ravensburger Ring in Westkreuz and in the elementary and secondary school on Wiesentfelserstraße in Neuaubing West.
