Hermann Lingnau (born October 22, 1936 in Kassel ) is a former athlete from the Federal Republic of Germany, who was German indoor champion seven times from 1955 to 1961 and German outdoor champion in shot put in 1957 and 1958 .

Career

The 1.92 m tall Hermann Lingnau began his sporting career in youth at KSV Hessen Kassel , until 1956 he belonged to the TK Hannover . In 1957 and 1958 he started for Hannover 96 , 1959 for Rot-Weiß Koblenz and from 1960 for FSV Frankfurt . Lingnau started from 1955 to 1961 in 42 international matches for the German national team. At the European Championships in 1958 , he finished fourth with 17.07 m, five centimeters behind third-placed Jíři Skobla from Czechoslovakia. In 1959 Lingnau won the title at the Universiade with 17.32 m . In 1960 he was able to qualify for the all-German team at the Olympic Games together with Dietrich Urbach from Munich and Fritz Kühl from East Berlin . In Rome he reached the preliminary fight and finished twelfth with 16.98 m. Lingnau achieved his personal best of 18.00 m on July 19, 1961 in Stuttgart.

After the 1961 season, Lingnau ended his career. The business graduate was city ​​treasurer of Frankfurt am Main from 1972 to 1978 . From 1979 to 1987 he was a board member of the Reconstruction Loan Corporation and from 1979 to 1982 he was a board member of the German Olympic Society .

Lingnau's father Alfred Lingnau was successful as a shot putter, discus thrower and stone pusher in the 1920s and 1930s, especially in the German gymnastics association .
